Foothills Recreation

Within our Hinton and Edson Forest Management Agreement (FMA) areas, West Fraser is a founding member of the Foothills Recreation Management Association (FRMA). FRMA is made of a number of like-minded organizations that consider recreation a valuable resource of the land base. In addition to West Fraser, current members of FRMA include: the Town of Hinton, Yellowhead Country, and Elk Valley Resources.

FRMA’s mandate is as follows:

  1. To provide safe, affordable and enjoyable recreational opportunities for the public in and around the communities of Hinton, Edson, Robb, Cadomin and Brule.
  2. To provide Indigenous employment.
  3. To provide the public with information about our core business or organizational priorities (i.e. forestry, mining, tourism, etc.)
  4. To raise awareness with users, stakeholders and government that the FRMA partners support recreation opportunities as part of their commitment to sustainability and community.

West Fraser is the one-window manager of FRMA and is the organization that enters into recreation maintenance contracts with Alberta and manages FRMA’s primary maintenance contractor – Fox Creek Development Association (FCDA), an indigenous-owned, not-for-profit company, based out of Hinton. The FRMA maintains and manages 24 different campgrounds and nine trail systems all surrounding the communities of Hinton, Edson, Robb and Cadomin. Information on all these recreation sites can be found in the links below
