Social

Our People, Our Communities

West Fraser is committed to a safe, inclusive and growth-oriented workplace while maintaining strong ties to the communities where we operate. Our approach prioritizes performance and people, creating long-term benefits for our employees, the regions where we operate and the forests we rely on.

Outstanding Performance

The safety and wellbeing of our people is our top priority. As an industry leader in safety and compliance, we embed a strong safety culture into every job, location and daily task.

Our holistic wellness strategy supports employees across four key areas: physical, social, mental, and financial health. We also provide employee assistance programs, including mental health support, for employees and their families.

By prioritizing safety and wellbeing, we empower our people to thrive—both on and off the job.

Achieving More Together

Inclusive and diverse teams create a vibrant workforce, safer operations and a stronger company.

By focusing on hiring, retention, policies and investing in education and youth support, we’re empowering our ~10,000 employees and the next generation to shape workplaces that reflect the communities where we operate.

Building Meaningful Relationships

Around the world, forests are natural sources of spiritual, cultural, social, economic and environmental value for Indigenous Peoples.

We acknowledge that our forest operations in Canada take place on Indigenous Peoples’ ancestral lands and traditional territories. These lands continue to hold inherent generational value for traditional use, celebration and cultural significance.

West Fraser engages with over 100 Indigenous governments, communities and organizations to build meaningful, long-term relationships that contribute to economic prosperity, community well-being and resilience. In recognition of those longstanding relationships, we are on a path towards achieving Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) Gold certification by 2030 from the Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business.

Driving Accountability Forward

At West Fraser, social responsibility means more than sustainable forest management—it includes protecting human rights, promoting equity and supporting our people and communities.

Our latest reports reflect these efforts:

Making an Impact Locally

At West Fraser, we believe in sharing responsibility for the communities where we operate. That’s why we invest in people, their potential and the future.

We work closely with local organizations and initiatives, supporting efforts that enrich the lives of those who live and work in our communities. Our regional teams help identify key areas of need, directing support through our community investment program focused on five key pillars.
