People at all levels of our business are working to embed sustainability practices in their everyday operations and business decisions. Strong governance through leadership, committees and working groups enables us to strategize, implement and measure our progress toward our sustainability ambitions.

West Fraser believes in healthy forests for the future.
Where West Fraser directly manages forestland, we manage these resources sustainably, allowing for their environmental, social, cultural and economic value to be maintained. Where we don't, we follow the principles of sustainable forestry, striving for responsible sourcing and promoting the sustainable management of wood resources.

Environmental excellence is foundational to operational excellence. Research, innovation and continuous improvement are helping us reduce emissions and unlock the full benefit of the resources in our value chain.
Through our approach, West Fraser is building on our legacy of the sustainability performance of our products and enhancing the social, environmental and economic benefit in the communities in which we operate.

West Fraser is deeply committed to being a good neighbour in the communities where we operate.
We strive to make a difference, one relationship and one community at a time, across our five pillars of focus: Quality of Life, Health and Wellness, Sustainability, Education and Indigenous Relations. Our teams are empowered to collaborate with local communities, directing funding where it can create the greatest impact and address each community’s unique needs.

Around the world, forests are natural sources of spiritual, cultural, social, economic and environmental value for Indigenous Peoples.
We acknowledge that our forest operations in Canada take place on Indigenous Peoples’ ancestral lands and traditional territories. These lands continue to hold inherent generational value for traditional use, celebration and cultural significance.
West Fraser engages with over 100 Indigenous governments, communities and organizations to build meaningful, long-term relationships that contribute to economic prosperity, community well-being and resilience. In recognition of those longstanding relationships, we are on a path towards achieving Partnership Accreditation in Indigenous Relations (PAIR) Gold certification by 2030 from the Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business.

The safety and well-being of our people is our top priority. As an industry leader in safety and compliance, we embed a strong safety culture into every job, location and daily task.
Our holistic wellness strategy supports employees across four key areas: physical, social, mental and financial health. We also provide employee assistance programs, including mental health support, for employees and their families.
By prioritizing safety and well-being, we empower our people to thrive—both on and off the job.
