Logistics Specialist

West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our Vancouver corporate office is currently recruiting for a Logistics Specialist.

Reporting to the Manager – Canadian Logistics, the Logistics Specialist coordinates and optimizes transportation activities across West Fraser's Canadian operations. This role works closely with transportation providers, Sales, and Operations teams to ensure the efficient movement of products while supporting service, cost, and operational objectives. The successful candidate will be a highly organized and analytical logistics professional with strong communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

You'll do:

Transportation Coordination & Execution:

  • Coordinate daily rail, truck, reload, and intermodal transportation activities to support customer and operational requirements.
  • Monitor shipment performance and proactively resolve transportation service issues, delays, and exceptions.
  • Work closely with transportation providers to ensure service reliability and effective execution of transportation plans.
  • Support inventory flow and transportation capacity requirements across multiple Canadian business units.
  • Assist in developing transportation solutions that improve service, efficiency, and cost performance.

Analytics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and maintain transportation reports, dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Analyze shipment data, transportation trends, and operational performance to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support forecasting activities related to transportation demand, capacity, and service requirements.
  • Assist with logistics projects focused on process optimization, cost savings, system enhancements, and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of transportation and logistics data.

Carrier & Vendor Management

  • Build and maintain productive relationships with transportation providers and logistics partners.
  • Support carrier performance management through regular review of service metrics and operational KPIs.
  • Assist with transportation rate analysis, contract administration, and vendor compliance activities.
  • Participate in carrier meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Business Partnership & Collaboration

  • Partner with Operations and Sales to support customer commitments and business objectives.
  • Develop a strong understanding of mill operations, customer requirements, and transportation networks.
  • Communicate transportation issues, risks, and market developments to internal stakeholders.
  • Support the Logistics team in implementing strategic initiatives and best practices across Canadian operations.

  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and data quality.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvement opportunities and implement practical solutions.
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, supply chain, or related operations.
  • Experience coordinating rail, truck, intermodal, or reload transportation is considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting KPI reporting and performance measurement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Power BI.
  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), ERP systems, or logistics software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of transportation regulations and industry best practices is considered an asset.
  • French language proficiency is considered an asset.

  • Competitive base salary with an annual bonus opportunity. The typical salary range for this position is $60,000-$ 83,000 and may vary depending on location, education, and relevant experience.
