Kiln and Lumber Yard Supervisor

As the Kiln and Lumber Yard Supervisor, you will be a key player in leading safe, efficient daily operations while supporting production flow and continuous improvement efforts. This position works closely with kiln and planer crews, maintenance, and shipping to coordinate activities, arrange loader operator relief coverage, and maintain performance targets across kiln and yard operations.
You'll Do:
- Supervising day-to-day operations of the kiln and lumber yard crews, ensuring safe, efficient, and consistent production.
- Coordinating with maintenance to address equipment issues, prioritize repairs, and support planned and unplanned downtime work.
- Lead by example in following all safety procedures and enforcing safe work practices.
- Support and participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and ongoing safety initiatives.
- Assisting with planning and execution of kiln outages, cleanup, and maintenance activities.
- Monitoring kiln performance, lumber flow, and yard inventory to maintain targets and minimize delays.
- Supporting continuous improvement efforts by identifying opportunities to improve processes, equipment performance, and workflow.
- Creating and submitting work requests and requisitions to support operational and maintenance needs.
- Training, mentoring, and developing crew members to ensure safe work practices and operational competency.
- Ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and contributing to updates and improvements as needed
- Communicating daily priorities, issues, expectations and updates with crews and other departments i.e. Planer, Sawmill.
- Reports to the Planer Superintendent.
You have:
- Minimum of 3–5 years of supervisory or related experience.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to supervise crews in a fast-paced environment.
- Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Team-oriented with a focus on safety and accountability.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with maintenance/work order systems.
- Fluent in UKG payroll system and Intelex reporting.
- Willingness to learn, grow, and take on increasing responsibility.
Considered a strong asset:
- Experience with batch kiln and CDK operations, lumber handling, or yard logistics.
- Trade certification or relevant technical training.
