Certified Heavy Duty Mechanic

West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our High-Level Division in Alberta is currently recruiting for a Certified Heavy Duty Mechanic.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Heavy Duty Mechanic will be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy industrial equipment used in the production of OSB. This includes but is not limited to mobile equipment (e.g., loaders, forklifts, skid steers), hydraulic systems, and mechanical components across the mill.

What you will be doing:

  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical failures, recommend solutions, and carry out necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment including loaders, dozers, forklifts, and mobile plant equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment and comply with all company safety regulations and procedures.
  • Assist with emergency breakdown repairs to minimize production delays.
  • Conduct regular maintenance inspections and document findings and actions taken.
  • Collaborate with mill operations and other maintenance staff to prioritize and plan equipment servicing.
  • Maintain accurate service records using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).

What you need to be successful:

  • Red Seal Certification as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician (or equivalent recognized qualification).

Would be considered an asset:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and diesel engine systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of diagnostic tools and mechanical repair equipment.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
