Reporting directly to the Maintenance Superintendent, the successful candidate will be an integral part of the team, leading the Saw Filing Department. Higher consideration will be granted to those with previous experience in the wood remanufacturing sector, in a sawmill, planer mill, or with forest products. 

You'll do:

  • Safety management including orientation, worker observations, identifying and correcting safety hazards, emergency protection systems and site audits
  • Ensure a safe work environment for the saw filing group by enforcing safe work practices, supporting company policies, ensuring proper training, and adherence to best practices
  • Making the safety of your teammates a business priority by meeting all leading safety indicators and being directly involved in the site safety program
  • Work with operations to improve reliability and maximize equipment availability at the lowest cost to the mill through involvement and understanding of the business
  • Inspecting, maintaining, and calibrating precision equipment
  • Enforcement of filing shop quality control standards
  • Designing of saws
  • Calculating saw speeds and feeds
  • Maintaining spare parts inventory
  • Shift scheduling
  • Troubleshooting and examining saws for defects
  • Management of saw box water and lubrication

You have:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – communication, conflict management, coaching, supportive feedback and problem-solving
  • A desire to progress, learn, grow, and succeed
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Proven safety leadership with knowledge of safety procedures and legislated safety codes
  • Ability to effectively use training resources to maximize direct report’s skills
  • Experience benching round saws and band saws (e.g. repairing, tensioning, leveling, tipping, sharpening)
  • Knowledge of functionality, maintenance, and alignment associated with a Canter, Headrig, Trim Saw, Gang Saws, Edgers, and Chippers.
  • Ability to service and supervise all aspects of saw maintenance for carbide tipped saws
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance processes related to saw shop and sawmill machinery
  • Technical understanding of the manufacturing and servicing of saws, guides, and chipping knifes
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Schedule flexibility – as work may require day, evening, and weekend shifts
  • Preference will be given to a Valid Inter-Provincial or Provincial Journeyperson Sawfiler Certification

  • The hourly pay rate for this position may vary depending on experience, education, and location.
