Electrical & Instrumentation Technician

Reporting to the Process Control Coordinator, the Electrical & Instrumentation Technician is a key member of the maintenance team, supporting safe and reliable mill operations through the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and improvement of electrical, instrumentation and process control systems.
This position works closely with operations, maintenance and corporate automation resources to maintain plant electrical and control equipment, improve equipment reliability and support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility.
You'll Do:
- Troubleshoot, maintain & repair electrical, instrumentation and control systems throughout the mill
- Inspect, test, calibrate & maintain process instrumentation, control devices, field equipment and associated wiring
- Install, modify & commission electrical, instrumentation and control system equipment in support of maintenance and improvement projects
- Read & interpret electrical schematics, instrumentation drawings, loop diagrams and control system documentation
- Troubleshoot motor control systems, VFDs, soft starters, MCC equipment & related electrical systems
- Perform PLC, HMI and VFD programming, troubleshooting and configuration as required
- Configure, maintain and troubleshoot industrial communication networks supporting HMI, PLC and field control systems
- Support Operations and Maintenance teams during normal operations, equipment failures, shutdowns and abnormal plant conditions
- Identify opportunities to improve electrical, instrumentation and process control system reliability and performance
- Maintain process control equipment, electrical documentation, software backups and related technical records
- Stay current with electrical, instrumentation and control technologies applicable to mill operations
- Participate in mill improvement initiatives, including energy management, data collection, reporting and equipment reliability programs
- Demonstrate leadership in safety and support a safe, productive work environment
You have:
- Certified Electrician OR Instrumentation with industrial experience; a min of 3 years of industrial experience is preferred
- Experience working with industrial electrical systems, instrumentation & process control equipment
- Familiarity with Allen-Bradley products, VFDs, soft starters, motor controls and HMI systems
- Experience with PLC-5 and ControlLogix PLC platforms
- Experience with industrial communication network protocols, including Ethernet, DeviceNet and ControlNet
- Experience troubleshooting, maintaining and calibrating field instrumentation and control devices
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control documentation
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software
- Ability to plan and manage daily work priorities and support small projects
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical, instrumentation and control system issues
- A solid record of safe work performance
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with Operations, Maintenance and Technical support groups
- Supervisory experience or demonstrated ability to move into a leadership role is considered an asset

Workplace Location:
- This position will be located at our West Fraser Grande Prairie, Alberta OSB facility
- The Electrical & Instrumentation Technician must be capable of working in an OSB manufacturing environment that includes exposure to noise, temperature variances, heights, stairways and grated elevated walkways, confined spaces, odors and the physical ability to travel through our industrial facility and lift / carry reasonable weights.
- Although the work schedule is primarily Monday to Friday, flexibility is required to support our 24/7/365 manufacturing facility.
