Purchaser - West Fraser Grande Prairie
At West Fraser Grande Prairie, the Purchaser is a crucial role responsible for the procurement of materials, commodities, supplies, equipment, and services for the GPR OSB facility. The Purchaser ensures purchasing activities for the facility are executed in an accurate and timely manner with effective communication to all stakeholders.
The Purchaser collaborates with all on site departments including Management Team, Leaders in Production, Maintenance and Shipping. Externally the Purchaser will be engaged with various equipment & parts vendors, contractors, and other procurement peers within West Fraser.
The Purchaser also promotes safe work behaviours within the Stores area.
You'll Do:
Purchaser is responsible for the full cycle procurement process, including but not limited to:
- Purchase of all goods and materials for Grande Prairie OSB
- Adhere to corporate purchasing agreements
- Managing additions, deletions, and changes to all purchase orders
- Monitor resource descriptions to ensure new resource additions are accurate
- Verifying approved purchase requisitions against the store’s inventories
- Serving as the central point of contact for accounting regarding invoice / purchase order discrepancies
- Expediting materials to meet work order material requirements dates
- Negotiating, reviewing, and confirming inventory lead times
- Lead the research of equipment, parts, and materials to support the operation
- Provide support to the storeroom in the development and maintenance of the repairable spares process
- Create and manage annual (blanket) purchase orders where necessary
- Manage all purchasing details of lease/rental agreements for equipment used on-site
- Negotiate site-specific purchasing and service agreements and communicate details to corporate purchasing
- Process all credit applications for new vendors and (if necessary) request new vendor setup
- Audit vendor performance as per corporate purchasing agreements
- Participates in Corporate Vendor Performance Reviews
You Have:
Candidate for this position should have the following qualifications and / or combination of educations & experience to be successful for this opportunity:
- Minimum five (5) years of purchasing experience preferably in an industrial environment
- Certification and membership in PSCM (Purchasing & Supply Chain Management) would be an asset.
- Experience working with industrial computer programs
- Experience with inventory management systems (e.g. Oracle / Maximo / IVARA)
- Confident leadership and interpersonal skills
- Above average attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Workplace Location:
- This position will be located at our West Fraser Grande Prairie, Alberta OSB facility
- Although the work schedule is primarily Monday to Friday, flexibility is required to support our 24/7/365 manufacturing facility.
- Grande Prairie, Alberta with a population of over 70 000 is less than 5 hours northwest of Edmonton in the “Peace Country Region”. Grande Prairie is the ‘hub’ for northern Alberta, northern BC and the NWT; with infrastructure to support an additional 300 000 visitors.
