Operations Superintendent

Closing date May 8th, 2026 

Reporting to the Woodlands Manager, as the Operations Superintendent you will lead a team of staff with responsibilities for all aspects of forest operations. The Operations Superintendent oversees and is responsible to ensure that logging, hauling, roads, bridges and transportation and related operations meet environmental and legal requirements and are conducted in a safe and cost-effective manner. 

As the ideal candidate, you are registered as an RPF or RFT in Alberta, or eligible for registration, with several years of progressive and related forestry or operations experience and a strong knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations in Alberta. This position requires a dynamic individual with excellent organization, leadership, communication and computer skills. 

You'll do : 

  • Ensure timber is harvested and delivered to West Fraser facilities in a timely, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable manner, while maintaining regular communication with mill operations to align supply, quality standards, and production needs.
  • Manage contracts with several contractors, including relationships, rate negotiations, scheduling, performance monitoring, and compliance with safety and environmental standards
  • Collaborate with Planning and Silviculture departments.
  • Provide strong leadership to Area Supervisors, fostering development, accountability, and high performance.
  • Liaise with government officials and stakeholders.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the Operations Budget 
  • Strong commitment to safety 
  • Provide leadership for the Woodlands Department by being a role model in all areas, including safety, working relationships and training 
  • Mentor and train new staff members and summer students
