Intern: Maintenance                   

 Summary:

This position will report to the Maintenance Supervisor and mentored by experienced West Fraser Industrial and/or Electrical Maintenance technicians. Interns will receive hands on experience in the inspection, operation, or testing of machinery or equipment to diagnose machine/electrical malfunctions.  Perform routine maintenance duties such as  diagnose mechanical/electrical problems and determine how to correct them. Collaborate with team members to ensure tasks are completed in a safe, timely and cost efficient manner. This position will work on days not in class.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Safety-  Promotes, adheres to, and contributes to plant safety programs and ensures compliance with best maintenance practices (BMP’s).
  • Provide support to Team Members to help achieve the business plan.
  • Make time and attendance entries into UltiPro.
  • Attend and complete required training.
  • While learning by observation and hands on experience to :
  • Perform precision measurements by use of various measurement devices such as calipers, dial indicators and micrometers.
  • Reads and interprets blue prints and layout work.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical/electrical systems and components
  • Attend toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Learn to analyze breakdowns of equipment and electrical issues.
  • Answer   trouble   calls,   performs scheduled and non-scheduled inspections,   adjustments,   repairs, etc., in   accordance   with diagram   or   drawing   specifications, manuals or other instructions.
  • Analyze all types of hydraulic and   pneumatic   circuits,   diagrams or drawings as   required to install, repair, adjust, calibrate, construct, modify or   service all types of mechanical system and devices.
  • Analyze comprehensive schematics, sketches, and drawings related to the maintenance and repair of all types of mechanical   systems and devices.
  • Properly containerizes, labels, and transports hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Other duties as may be assigned or required to achieve business goals and objectives.

 Minimum qualifications that you will need:

  • Eligible to legally work in the United States
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School diploma or equivalent education
  • Ability to work as part of a team and deliver value to the team
  • Willingness and ability to cross-train to learn new jobs and skills
  • Consistent, predictable attendance

Working Conditions:

All roles require a person to work in working conditions such as heat, cold, snow, rain, ice, frost, humidity, severe storms and so forth.  Special working conditions include regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors, working as a team regardless of challenge, and so forth.  Exposure to noise, dirt, grease, water and sawdust is common.   Must be able to work at heights up to 130 ft above ground.  Must be able to work for non-extended periods at temperatures of 110 to 120 degrees F.

Physical Requirements:

Physical ability to perform the essential job functions of the position, which includes climbing stairs, navigating catwalks, working at heights up to 30 feet above the ground, lifting up to 50 pounds (from floor to shoulder height), stooping, and bending, carrying up to 50 pounds at least 40 feet.
