Indigenous Relations Superintendent

Indigenous Relations Superintendent

Location: Slave Lake, Alberta
Make a meaningful impact. Help shape lasting partnerships.

About the Opportunity

We’re looking for a passionate and relationship-driven Indigenous Relations Superintendent to lead meaningful engagement with Indigenous communities and partners across the region. This is more than a job — it’s an opportunity to act as a cultural connector, advocate, and collaborator. You’ll help build long-term, trust-based relationships that advance community-driven priorities, support economic and employment opportunities, and ensure Indigenous knowledge and perspectives are respectfully integrated into our forest operations.

You’ll be working on the ground with community leaders, elders, government, and internal teams to shape engagement strategies that matter — and make a lasting difference.

What We Offer

We recognize the importance of your work and want to ensure you’re well-supported, both professionally and personally:

Compensation & Career Growth

  • Competitive base salary (range based on experience and education) and the typical salary range for this position is between $100,00-$120,000
  • Annual performance bonus eligibility
  • Opportunities for advancement and leadership development

Comprehensive Benefits Package

  • Full extended health coverage — medical, dental, vision
  • Pension and retirement savings plans
  • Life, disability, and accident insurance
  • Paid vacation and personal days
  • Generous holiday schedule
  • Employee wellness programs to support your mental, physical, and emotional health

Relocation Support

  • We provide relocation assistance to help make your move to Slave Lake as smooth as possible — whether you're moving solo or with a family. From housing recommendations to settling-in support, we’ll help you feel at home from day one

What You’ll Do

As the regional lead for Indigenous engagement, your core responsibilities will include:

  • Lead consultation and engagement activities with Indigenous communities and key partners in alignment with operational priorities.
  • Build and maintain respectful, positive relationships with communities, acting as a central point of contact.
  • Act as the administrative lead for Alberta’s Indigenous consultation process, ensuring compliance, transparency, and respectful dialogue.
  • Support the negotiation and implementation of agreements that strengthen relationships and drive shared success.
  • Communicate openly and effectively about forest management plans and stewardship initiatives.
  • Collaborate with our Alberta Indigenous Relations Lead to implement local strategies that support economic development, employment, and training initiatives.
  • Ensure internal teams follow through on commitments and that engagement efforts are well-documented and communicated.
  • Participate in community events and engagement activities and act as a visible and trusted presence in the region.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years’ experience in Indigenous relations, consultation, or a related role.
  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead community engagement efforts and facilitate collaborative partnerships.
  • Strong communication skills — including the ability to draft clear agreements, policies, and reports.
  • Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, protocols, and histories — particularly within northern Alberta.
  • Knowledge of forest management practices and provincial consultation guidelines is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel and participate in occasional evening or weekend events.
  • A collaborative spirit, strategic mindset, and deep respect for Indigenous communities and cultures.
