Corporate Accounting Manager

West Fraser offers a range of exciting career opportunities for individuals seeking challenging and rewarding careers. Our Vancouver Corporate office is currently recruiting for a Corporate Accounting Manager.

Our Vancouver office is looking for an experienced finance professional to lead our Canadian corporate accounting team. In this role, you will oversee, mentor, and develop a growing group of talented accounting professionals, including CPA students. The Canadian Corporate Accounting team currently consists of five skilled team members and is expected to expand over the coming year as we assume additional responsibilities from other sections of the business.

We are committed to continuous employee development and follow a subject matter expert (“SME”) model within our corporate accounting teams. Corporate accountants have the opportunity to build deep expertise in one area of corporate accounting and then expand into additional areas of finance and accounting. This approach creates a well-rounded professional experience and prepares team members for growth into broader roles within the finance organization, including transfers to other departments.

You will partner with the U.S. corporate accounting manager in Memphis, Tennessee, to ensure consistency and adherence to best practices. Travel between offices may be required. Our corporate offices operate as a single service center, with the flexibility to shift work between locations during peak periods or to support employee development.

We require experience with SOX internal control processes and design. You will work with our internal audit department to assess our process flows and ensure they are appropriately designed, documented and implemented.  You will ensure the team follows our accounting policies and procedures and have a strong understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards.

You will be responsible for approving journal entries prepared by the team, as well as accounts payable invoices for the finance department and general office purchases. You will also review and approve monthly account reconciliations, variance analyses, and the corporate budget to ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial results.

This role partners closely with corporate managers and Vice Presidents across the organization to clearly explain budget‑to‑actual variances and support the corporate budgeting and forecasting cycles. You will ensure that financial results are well understood by providing meaningful analysis, validating key assumptions, and translating data into actionable insights. Together with your team, you will collaborate with budget owners to identify risks and opportunities and recommend cost-saving or efficiency-enhancing solutions.

We are seeking a self-starter and creative problem solver with strong communication skills and an achievement-oriented mindset. You thrive in dynamic environments, embrace new challenges, and continuously look for ways to improve. You bring a passion for innovation and automation in financial processes, demonstrate strong analytical capabilities, and maintain exceptional attention to detail. You are adaptable, comfortable managing change, and committed to driving operational excellence.

You'll Do:

  • Responsible for corporate financial statements and the maintenance of corporate accounts. This includes partnering with managers across corporate departments to explain budget-to-actual variances and support the corporate budget and forecast process.
  • Manage a corporate accounting team, including creating training, development, and succession plans.
  • Approve journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by your team.  Prepare and post the occasional journal entry.
  • Approve invoices for the finance department and general office purchases.
  • Review and approve monthly variance analysis, ensuring the accuracy of results.
  • Assist with developing or upgrading subject matter expert documentation and training programs.
  • Oversee preparation of tax working papers, budgets, and other analytical reports.
  • Ensure that internal controls are appropriately designed and implemented and that we comply with corporate accounting policies and procedures.
  • Assist with quarter-end and year-end reporting, including tax working papers, financial statements, and related notes.
  • Assist with financial system upgrades, conversions, or changes in operating strategies.  Be open to new ways of using software and technology, and automate where possible.
  • Ad hoc and special projects, as required.

You have:

  • CPA professional designation is required
  • Three or more years of public practice experience (other experience may be considered)
  • A minimum of 5 years of managing and developing employees
  • Experience working in a SOX control environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
  • A mindset for process improvement and efficiency
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
  • Experience with Oracle EBS or JDE accounting software and BI reporting is considered an asset

What We Offer:

  • Competitive base salary with an annual bonus opportunity. The typical salary range for this position is $115,000-$140,000, with variation based on location, education, and relevant experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits: including medical, dental, and vision coverage, pension and saving plans, life, disability, and accident insurance, vacation time, paid holidays and additional benefits to support your well-being.
