It is core to our company values to promote from within to build our leadership team. The overwhelming majority of our management and senior leadership teams are drawn from employees who have developed their talents and grown their career within West Fraser.
We support the learning and career development of our employees through internal training courses and externally developed training programs. We do not currently maintain a central database of employee training hours.
We deliver a broad range of custom educational programs to support the development of technical and professional skills for hourly and salaried employees as they progress in their career with the Company. These programs range from trades skills development, including the support of apprenticeship and certification structures, to our internal leadership development curriculum, which focuses on advancing people and business management skills within the West Fraser culture in support of the progressive development of our leaders and future leaders. Where appropriate, we fund external education for employees. This upgrading of employee skillsets is critical to our Company because we look first to promote from within our employee workforce for supervisory, trade and management positions. The overwhelming majority of our management and senior management team are drawn from internal promotions.
Where redundancies are unavoidable, we do our best to help affected employees transfer internally to new roles, or to help them transition and find other employment whenever possible.
We believe that developing people is a lot more than a once-a-year performance review, it includes regular feedback as part of employee’s ongoing work to support employees to achieve the necessary skills to develop professionally, whether in an hourly or salaried position. Career development discussions and individual development plans are also part of the development activities for our salaried and hourly personnel.
We do not disclose performance and career development review activity by gender or employee category.
