We have 8,053 employees in more than 50 locations including operating facilities and office locations. For the year ending Dec 31, 2020, we operate 21 lumber mills in the US and are a diversified producer of wood products with access to extensive timber resources in Canada. Our Canadian lumber, plywood, LVL and veneer operations are directly or indirectly the primary source of raw material for our pulp & paper, MDF and energy operations. We have 13 lumber mills, 7 engineered wood and panel facilities and 5 pulp and paper mills (two of which are 50% partnerships.) We hold harvesting licenses representing approximately 8.2 million hectares of certified sustainably managed forests in Canada (70,000 square kilometres).
On November 19, 2020, we announced that we had entered into an arrangement agreement with Norbord Inc. (“Norbord”) under which we had agreed to acquire Norbord to create a leading global wood products company focused on lumber, panels, pulp and oriented strand board (“OSB”) across North America, Europe and Asia (the “Arrangement Agreement”). West Fraser completed the acquisition of Norbord on February 1, 2021 and Norbord is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of West Fraser.
