Cross-Country Skiing

Cross-country skiers have several groomed trail systems to choose from. The Athabasca Nordic centre near Hinton is a world-class facility with a lodge and an extensive network of groomed trails for both classical and skate styles, including 1.6 km lit for night skiing. The Nordic centre hosted a World Cup Biathlon event in 1994. Switzer Park has groomed trails maintained by the Park and Blue Lake Adventure Lodge.

The Foothills Recreation Management Association's Spruce Management Trail is groomed throughout the winter and is dog-friendly. The Muskeg Flyers, a local ski club, look after the Hornbeck Trails near Edson. Ungroomed cross-country ski trails that are accessible in winter include the Cache Percotte and Pine Management Trail networks.
