West Fraser is one of Canada’s Top Employers for Young People for 2020, named by Mediacorp Canada Inc. This is the fourth time we’ve received the award.
West Fraser is committed to empowering and supporting young people to challenge themselves, make a valuable contribution and build their path at our Company. We received this award for initiatives that show how we support young people to begin and build their career. The reasons include:
Our partnership with the College of New Caledonia that offers apprenticeships for millwrights, electricians, heavy duty mechanics, and saw filer
Paying for tuition and books while apprentices are in school, and providing additional living allowances, salary continuances, and an interest-free loan to buy tools – once at work, the apprentice is paired with a mentor to continue their training
The “New and Young Worker program” to provide extensive training to employees under the age of 25
“People are the key to what makes West Fraser a good company. Recruiting talented employees who want to be part of our team and grow their career with us is a must;” says Ray Ferris, CEO. “We are honoured to be recognized as an employer that is focused on supporting young careers and assisting them to achieve their potential.”
The Young People award is in its 18th year, and it’s a special designation from MediaCorp’s Canada’s Top 100 Employers national competition. It recognizes employers offering the nation’s best workplaces and programs for youth people starting their career, as well as how they retain their employees. You can learn more about the award here. West Fraser also received the Canada’s Top 100 award for the seventh time in 2020.
