For every tree we harvest, we plant two in its place. 2017 was a landmark year for our sawmill in Sundre, Alberta, reaching the milestone of having planted their 100 millionth tree in the Sundre Forest Management Agreement (FMA) area - a significant area of land the woods team manages near our mill.
Beginning with the signing of the Sundre FMA in 1992, the team at the mill have looked after the area ever since. The FMA guarantees a long-term supply of logs for the Sundre mill and our laminated veneer lumber mill in nearby Rocky Mountain House. Reforesting the areas we harvest is a big part of this, but forest management also includes addressing many community and natural resource values, such as recreation and habitat management.
The woods team is proud to have reached 100 million planted trees. Greg, Woods Manager at Sundre says: "100 million trees planted is a fantastic demonstration of our successful management of the FMA. Alberta forests are a renewable resource and we take great pride in our local reforestation practices to ensure healthy forests are sustained for everyone to enjoy."
