Systems Engineer - Microsoft

The role of the System Engineer is to provide direct Tier-3 technical implementation and support for West Frasers IT infrastructure and major IT projects and initiatives. This position will report directly to the Infrastructure Software Supervisor.


  • Maintenance and implementation of West Fraser production systems, including: Active Directory, Group Policy, Certificate and License services, Key Management, Azure, DHCP, DNS, Exchange Online, Office 365 Tenant
  • Collaborate with team to design, implement, document and test IT Disaster Recovery solutions for critical production systems
  • Implement and use tools for health checks and performance monitoring of applicable services
  • Work with team members to develop a Standard Operating Environment (SOE), ensuring compliance with the SOE of all hardware and software changes, and accurately creating and maintaining all system documentation
  • Work with Security Team to implement improvements and maintain secure environments
  • Use IT Service Management, Change Management and other tools to manage issue resolution and changes to production systems
  • Design and implement technical solutions, troubleshooting and optimization
  • Provide ‘out of business hours’ support to ensure security and integrity, continuity and availability of infrastructure and systems
  • Actively work with fellow team members to increase infrastructure team knowledge and skills
  • As required, work with IT vendors on approved activities
  • Other duties as directed by the Infrastructure Software Supervisor

Position Requirements

  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Expert experience with Active Directory, domain environments and related services
  • Strong current knowledge of Windows Server technologies
  • PowerShell scripting knowledge and experience
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards
  • Knowledge of storage, network, communications and other technologies an asset

Certifications/ Skills

  • Demonstrated success in alignment with West Fraser Values
  • Microsoft infrastructure certifications an asset

This position may require occasional travel within Canada and the United States of America. Work coverage includes West Fraser business operations and participation in on-call rotation schedule. Occasional evening and weekend work to perform scheduled maintenance, respond to service interruptions, and to meet deadlines.
