System Engineer – Endpoint Systems

The role of the System Engineer is to provide direct Tier-3 technical implementation and support for West Frasers IT infrastructure and major IT projects and initiatives. This position will report directly to the Infrastructure Software Supervisor.


  • Production systems implementation and administration of West Fraser systems, including: Intune, System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • Central administration of endpoint devices: desktops, laptops, mobile phones, tablets
  • Implementation and administration of data protection (MBAM/BitLocker) and backup for high-profile PCs
  • Design and provide KPI reports from endpoint management systems
  • Aid in support of Citrix virtual desktop environment
  • Aid in design, implementation and administration of IP telephony systems
  • Implement and use tools for performance monitoring, space management and reorganization, patching and quality assurance, etc.
  • Work with team members to develop a Standard Operating Environment (SOE), ensuring compliance with the SOE of all hardware and software changes, and accurately creating and maintaining all system documentation
  • Support deployment of on-site IT infrastructure
  • Use IT Service Management (ServiceNow), Change Management (Jira) and other tools to manage issue resolution and changes to production systems
  • Implement technical solutions, troubleshooting and optimization as directed
  • Provide ‘out of business hours’ support to ensure security and integrity, continuity and availability of infrastructure and systems
  • Actively work with fellow team members to increase infrastructure team knowledge and skills
  • As required, work with IT vendors on approved activities
  • Other duties as directed by the IT Manager

Position Requirements

  • Expert experience with Windows desktop system deployment technologies
  • Experience with Windows Server technologies
  • Experience with Active Directory and Domain environments
  • PowerShell scripting
  • Knowledge of storage, network, communications and other technologies
  • Well-rounded understanding of backup technologies
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards
  • Excellent hardware troubleshooting experience

Education & Experience: 

  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Information Technology or MIS from a recognized public or private program and/or 5+ years of relevant experience

Certifications/ Skills:   

  • Demonstrated success in alignment with West Fraser Values
  • Microsoft infrastructure certifications an asset

This position may require occasional travel within Canada and the United States of America. Work coverage includes West Fraser business operations and participation in on-call rotation schedule. Occasional evening and weekend work to perform scheduled maintenance, respond to service interruptions, and to meet deadlines.
