Pacific Inland Resources (PIR) is a sawmill facility in Smithers, British Columbia. We are beginning our public review process for two proposed Forest Stewardship Plans (FSPs). These FSPs will cover our operations in the Bulkley Timber Supply Area (TSA) and the Morice Timber Supply Area. An approved FSP guides the harvest of timber and construction of roads within a forest development unit (FDU).
REVIEW AND COMMENT PERIODS
Prior to submitting the new FSPs for approval, PIR is providing an opportunity for review and comment on the results and strategies outlined in the plans to address the following Objectives set by Government for:
b) visual quality;
h) recreation resources;
i) cultural heritage resources;
j) Measures to mitigate loss of natural range barriers and to reduce introduction of invasive plants; and
j) other objectives established under the Forest and Range Practices Act that pertain to the area of the FSP.
Bulkley Timber Supply Area
For the FSP within the Bulkley Timber Supply Area, the parties to the FSP are West Fraser Mills Ltd and the Lake Babine Nation. In addition to the objectives established by Governement under the Forest and Range Practices Act, this FSP also addresses objectives established by the Bulkley LRMP Objectives set by Governement (2006), Telkwa Caribou Wildlife Habitat Order (2015) and Fisheries Sensitive Watersheds in Bulkley TSA (2005).
Morice Timber Supply Area
Within the Morice Timber Supply Area, PIR is proposing an FSP for the Morrison and Tanglechain areas of the TSA. In addition to the objectives established by Government under the Forest and Range Practices Act, this FSP also addresses objectives established by the Land Use Objectives Regulation Order for the Morice LRMP (2016).
Both FSPs can also be reviewed between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm at the office of Pacific Inland Resources at 2375 Tatlow Road, Smithers, BC.
The opportunity to review and comment will run for a 60 day period, ending August 21, 2017. Comments must be received in writing no later than 5:00 pm on August 21, 2017.
