W

e understand that operations of our size and scope come with clear environmental responsibilities.  At West Fraser, we are proud of our environmental achievements, and of our responses to new challenges and opportunities.

We maintain a philosophy of continual improvement of our forest practices and manufacturing processes to optimize the use of resources and minimize or eliminate the impact of our operations on the environment.

We rely on the sound science of sustainable forest management to ensure the forests where we operate are managed properly.

We work in partnership with communities, governments and other forest stakeholders to ensure environmental, social and economic values are balanced appropriately.

Our company has a long and proud history of environmental protection, preservation and responsibility.  This record of action was made clear in 1994, when, West Fraser voluntarily, and without any compensation, relinquished harvesting rights to the largest intact coastal temperate rainforest on Earth: the Kitlope.

To date, we have deferred or relinquished harvesting rights on over half a million hectares (1.24 million acres).  That’s an area almost 100 times the size of Manhattan.
